Mob Swarms Love Park, Shuts Down Subway Stops

A mob of several hundred young people shut down two subway stops Friday night

A mob of several hundred teens and young people descended on Love Park Friday night and spread through the subway system, shutting down two stops for about 20 minutes.

The huge crowd gathered first at Love Park a little after 7 p.m. and as police tried to disperse the massive group, most continued up Broad Street and clogged the Spring Garden subway station, police say.

Upon request by police, SEPTA trains bypassed the Spring Garden and Fairmount stops from 7:54 p.m. to 8:20 p.m., say SEPTA officials.

A spokesman for SEPTA said that there were no incident reports, nor any property damage.

By 8:40 p.m. there was no trace of the young group of hundreds.
