Skeletal Remains of Human Foot Found on Beach

The medical examiner's office says the remains are a right foot that was inside a high-top sneaker

A fisherman has found a sneaker containing skeletal human remains on a beach in Cape May County, N.J.

State Police say the man was fishing at Corson Inlet State Park in Ocean City when he made the discovery on Tuesday around 1 p.m.

The Southern Regional Medical Examiner's Office says the remains are a right foot that was inside a black Adidas ADI Rise 2 high-top sneaker, size 5 1/2.

Some of the toes have colored nail polish, but the gender and age are unknown.

People fishing in the area Tuesday reacted to the discovery.

"Kind of makes you wonder what's going on with the rest of the body. It's very strange," said Jamie Pugliese of Glen Mills, Pa. "I feel terrible for the family and the person it happened to."

"This is a long waterway. It could come from here, maybe it could come from somewhere else," said Ben Lyman of Flemington, N.J.

The remains will be sent to the state anthropologist for examination and DNA testing.

Anyone with information about their identity should contact the New Jersey State Police Major Crime Unit at 609-561-1800, extension 3355.
