First the Flood, Now an Oily Mess

It’s a nasty clean-up for residents living on Orange Avenue in Ambler, PA.  Dozens of people were evacuated on Thursday when flood waters spilled through their neighborhood.  On Friday, there was another big mess.

“They kept saying the water has oil in it” said Tanitra Thompson.  “They didn’t want anyone to get sick or whatever.  It was all over the place.”

An oil tank in someone’s basement spilled in the flood.  That house has been condemned.  But the oil spread to other homes and cars.  And neighbors say the smell is impossible to ignore.

“If you look in the back you can smell it and you can see the water, how black it is” said Maurice Willis.

But according to the borough manager, the neighborhood is safe.  “We had the DEP, County EOC for hazardous material.  The neighborhood is safe” Mary Aversa told NBC 10 News.

25 homes in the area were withoug power Friday night.
