Philadelphia Fireman Poses as Officer During Sexual Assault: Police

A Philadelphia firefighter posed as a Philadelphia Police officer during a sexual assault, according to investigators.

Fire Lt. Jemal Johnson forced a woman into his pickup truck around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at 13th and Ruscomb streets in the Logan section of the city, said Philadelphia Police.

“Once inside the vehicle he tells her that he would not arrest her if she performs some sort of sex act,” said Philadelphia Police Lt. John Stanford.

The 48-year-old victim followed Johnson’s demands but was eventually able to get out of the truck and call for help, said investigators.

“Once she escapes from the vehicle she calls 911,” said Stanford.

Investigators said Johnson was still wearing his fire uniform pants when officers arrested him. Investigators said those pants could have helped him pose as an officer of the law.

Johnson, 45, is an 18-year veteran of the fire department assigned to Ladder Company 14 in North Philadelphia.

He posted 10 percent of $100,000 bail after a Philadelphia judge arraigned him on sexual assault, unlawful restraint, indecent assault, reckless endangerment and related charges, according to court records.

No one answered the door at Johnson’s home Thursday night.

When reached by NBC10.com’s Nefertiti Jaquez Thursday night, the Philadelphia Fire Department wasn’t ready to comment on the case.
