Philly firefighter hit by a fire truck after crews responded to a three-alarm fire Saturday

A Philadelphia firefighter was run over by a fire truck after crews responded to a three-alarm fire in the Roxborough area Saturday morning.

Firefighters responded to a blaze at the Abbey House Apartments at 450 Domino Lane at about 5:25 a.m. The fire was under control at about 7 a.m. but during the firefight, 51-year-old firefighter George Savoy was struck by one of the ladder trucks, according to authorities.

Savoy was brought to Einstein Medical Center where he is in critical condition. He is suffering from head trauma as well as fractured ribs according to authorities. His family remains with him at his bedside.

About 100 people were displaced by the apartment complex fire, and 25 of the resident are being housed at a Red Cross shelter at the Shawmont school in Roxbroough.

One civilian was also brought to Einstein for smoke inhalation.

30 apartments remain damaged. Accomodations are available at Greene Countrie Court, which is half a mile away from the Abbey House, according to the Metropolitan Management Corporation.

The Corporation also says that the remaining displaced residents will be able to return to their apartments Sunday evening at the earliest and Monday at the latest.

Police are currently investigating both the cause of the fire and the firetruck that struck Savoy.
