Parade of Fire Trucks Honors Ailing Ex-Deputy

A noisy parade of emergency vehicles from all over eastern Pennsylvania drove by the home of an ailing firefighter to honor his service to the community.

Dozens of fire trucks and ambulances from Berks, Lancaster, Montgomery and Lebanon Counties blared their horns and sirens along Ron Wentzel's street in Sinking Spring.

Wentzel is a 51-year-old former deputy chief of the Reading Fire Department. He's been battling brain cancer and is in hospice care at home.

Wentzel's wife Dianne says he smiled and kept saying "Wow!" as the trucks passed by Saturday. Many people came in to visit him as well.

Dianne Wentzel says doctors gave her husband six months to live when they diagnosed him with glioblastoma. That was nearly two years ago.
