Fire crews were able to contain the blaze to the daycare center located in a northwest Philadelphia strip mall.
Firefighters responded to reports of heavy smoke and flames in the Smart Start Academy on the 1500 block of Wadsworth Avenue in the city's East Oak Lane section around 3 a.m.
They were able to contain the single-alarm blaze to the one building -- preventing the flames from spreading to other neighboring businesses, according to officials.
The fire was put out around 3:20 a.m., according to authorities.
Prestige Learning Center began leasing the daycare -- closed when the blaze broke out -- in late July, according to reports.
Prestige had yet to open in the property.
