Fire Destroys North Philadelphia Home

Firefighters responded to a blaze at a North Philadelphia rowhome on the 2700 block of North Newkirk Street earlier Sunday morning.

The fire broke out just before 8 a.m. and spread to an abandoned home next door. Crews were able to put the fire out within 30 minutes, officials said.

While all residents were able to make it out of the home safely, at least two cats were killed and one cat and a dog were injured, according to the Red Paw Emergency Relief Team.

The American Red Cross was assisting two families.

Investigators were looking into the cause of the fire.
