Handcuffs and Final Salute to Sgt. Simpson

Sgt. Simpson's handcuffs were held high at a vigil in his honor Tuesday afternooon in Port Richmond. NBC10 Reporter Stacey Weaver reports on the emotional moment.

Philadelphia police Sgt. Timothy Simpson was killed Monday night when a car slammed into his police cruiser.

It was an emotional moment:  The final salute for Sgt. Timmy Simpson Tuesday afternoon at the scene in Port Richmond where he died.

Captain Kevin Hodges from the 24th District brought Sgt. Simpson's handcuffs to a vigil taking place.

He held the handcuffs up and fellow officers cheered.

There was also a final salute at the vigil by some members of the 24th, which was Sgt. Simpson's district.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 24 at 11:30am at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul on the Ben Franklin Parkway.

A trust fund has been established for Sergeant Simpson's family.
