Family Survives Fiery Crash, Home Explosion

The family inside the house did get out alive

A car slammed into the Cummings family's van and house early Tuesday, setting off an explosion and fire that left nothing but the charred frame of their house standing.

"At least when that horn stayed on and that bang gave them enough time to get out, get out the back," said Bob Wallace, who witnessed the bizarre accident on Byberry Road in Upper Moreland, Montgomery County, Pa.

The Cummings family all got out alive -- Jim and his wife, their three little boys and even the family dog. The two people in the car did not survive. Investigators are trying to figure out what caused the crash.

"If you woke up and there was a car in your living room, you would be scared. What would be your first reaction? To make sure everyone gets out in time." said Joseph Cummings, a relative of the family.

Friends collected what little was left of the family's belongings, which appeared to be mostly toys, before the house was demolished. Everything else was gone.

"Those things can be replaced, people can't," said Joseph Cummings.
