Police Nab Store Owner Shooting Suspect

North Philly corner store shooting happened the night before Fathers Day

Philadelphia Police have one of the men they believe were involved in the Fathers Day-eve shooting of a grandfather inside his North Philly corner-store owner.

The botched robbery happened June 18 at Los Ingenitos grocery store at 2400 N 9th St. Police say the owner, 59-year-old Felix Rodriguez, was shot six times in the face, neck, chest and groin.

Rodriguez -- a husband, father and grandfather -- was awaiting the birth of his second grandchild. Family members begged Rodriguez to close the store as they had been robbed before.

“Suddenly three guys got into the store, his employee was in the back sweeping and cleaning the store... he got pointed with a gun and then heard shots,” said Jose Rodriguez, his brother-in-law.

Police say the three men fled on foot without any money.

The man arrested Tuesday wasn't immediately identified. His two alleged accomplices remained on the loose, cops said.

Police believe there may have been two guns used.

Rodriguez’ wife had just left the store a few minutes before the shooting. She was going home to prepare dinner to celebrate Father’s Day.

If you have any information about the shooting, please contact the Philadelphia Police Department at 215-686-3280.
