Woman Finds Daughter, Husband Dead in Garage

Police say the carbon monoxide poisonings were an awful accident

A Delaware County woman came home Monday afternoon to find her husband and three-year old daughter dead in the garage of their new home in Middletown, Pa. The two died of carbon monoxide poisoning in what police called an awful accident.

The man's body was found on the floor by the driver's side door of the car and the little girl was buckled into her booster seat. State police think the husband, 38, lost consciousness, probably because he was a diabetic. When he fell, he hit his head.

The car was left running with their daughter inside for several hours, according to investigators.

Firefighters detected lethal levels of carbon monoxide when they got to the house. Autopsies are being performed Tuesday.

"It's very unsettling," said neighbor Joann Galinsky. "We never got a chance to actually meet them."

The family moved into the home just last week.

"I told my daughter, 'You don't sweat the small stuff because you don't know what life will throw at you,' " said Galinsky. "It's sad."
