2 Men Killed, Another Hurt in Camden Shooting

A New Year's Eve shooting in Camden, N.J. has left two men dead and another person hospitalized.

The shooting took place inside a home along the 700 block of Division Street around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Camden Metro Police say.

Jorge Chavis, 31, and James Anderson, 23, both Camden residents died inside the home, according to police. Another person was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition is unknown.

Camden Metro Police Chief Scott Thomson tells NBC10 the shooting appears to be drug related and that the men may have have been targeted.

Investigators from the Camden County Prosecutor's Office at the scene say there may have been a dispute inside the home before the gunshots were fired.

"It just hurt me so bad. It's just so bad out here with these young guys, killing each other. Small disputes and they make a big thing out of it," said eyewitness Barbara Ingram. "Taking somebody's like and even giving up their life because their life is over, too. You know it's just so sad."

Dawne Acrey, whose family member lives nearby, says she was told by police one of the men were shot seven times.

"They just told me that they couldn't go to the store because there was a shooting and somebody name George was shot seven times," she said.

The shooter remains on the loose, but authorities have yet to release a description of that person.
