Family Mourns Loss of Another Child After Fire

2nd boy dies after June fire sends 5 family members to the hospital

A fire that devastated a Port Richmond family in late June claimed another victim Tuesday.

Jacob Proud Budzillo, 1, died of injuries he sustained after a fast-moving fire raced through his family's Madison Street home in the city's Port Richmond section on June 22.

Jacob, his two older brothers 3-year-old Nicholas and 5-year-old Christopher, his grandfather Glenn Budzillo and his mother Debbie were all hurt in the blaze.

All three boys were critically injured in the fire. Nicholas died later that day.

The baby's passing leaves only Christopher alive. He was last listed in critical condition with severe burns all over his body, officials said.

Glenn Budzillo and Debbie, who is pregnant, have since been released from the hospital.

Family and friends returned to the charred remains of the home Tuesday night to remember Jacob's short life.

Dozens stood with candles on the doorstep of the home as they prayed for the boy.

The fire started after an overused extension cord ignited items on the 2nd floor of the home. It was ruled accidental.
