Family Members Show Support For Tacony Mother

'I never thought this would happen'

Family members have gathered in support of a Tacony woman who is accused of killing her two twins as part of an attempted murder-suicide.

"As good a mother as she was, something happened to make her snap," Yvonne Newkirk, mother of Stacey Smalls, told NBC10's Christine Madella Saturday.

Smalls is being held without bail after being arraigned on two counts of murder in the deaths of her 18-month-old twins, Adam and Eve.

"We love her and we're all for her 150 percent," Newkirk said.

Police sources tell NBC10 that Smalls drowned one of the twins and strangled the other before attempting to poison her four-year-old daughter and slitting her wrists. The four-year-old is in stable condition at St. Christopher's Hospital. Sources also tell NBC10 that Smalls left multiple suicide notes explaining that she had become distraught after finding out that her husband had been having an affair.

On Saturday, members of her family released balloons in memory of the dead twins.
