Faith-Healing Couple Charged With Son's Murder

Herbert and Catherine Schaible will face murder and other charges in their child's death

Philadelphia prosecutors announce a faith-healing couple will face murder charges in the death of their 8-month old baby.

Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams announced Herbert and Catherine Schaible will face charges of  third degree murder, involuntary manslaughter, conspiracy and endangering welfare of a child at an afternoon news conference.

Their 7-month-old son, Brandon, died in April, in what the Philadelphia Medical Examiner's office ruled a homicide.

According to his death certificate, Brandon died from bacterial pneumonia, dehydration and group B streptococcus infection.

The Schaibles are members of the First Century Gospel, a religious group that relies on prayer, rather than medical care.

The couple was on probation for their toddler's 2009 pneumonia death and were under a court order to seek medical advice if any of their children became ill.

The Schaibles, who quit school after ninth grade, have worked as teachers at their fundamentalist church, First Century Gospel Church in Northeast Philadelphia.

Their seven surviving children have been placed in foster care.
