Teen Lifeguard Saves Heat-Stricken Woman

High school student rescues a woman who was passing out in a pool

Teen lifeguard Garrett Clayman saved a woman from drowning at a local pool on Thursday, reports the Courier-Post.

Clayman, 16, pulled the woman from the pool after he noticed that she seemed troubled.

The victim told him it was too hot and that she needed to be helped out of the pool at the Woodcrest Swim Club in Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

Clayman, who will be a junior at Cherry Hill East High School in the fall, said "She was losing consciousness so I blew the whistle, and then I jumped in and pulled her out." according to the Courier-Post.

The woman told Clayman that she had Vasovagal Syndrome, according to the paper. It's the most common cause of fainting and the Mayo Clinic says it can be triggered by "extreme emotional distress" including heat exposure or dehydration.
