Investigators are giving the public a play-by-play view of a brazen bank robbery from over the weekend.
Newly released surveillance video from the Federal Bureau of Investigations shows the early-morning robbery of the TD Bank branch at 2900 West Moreland Road in Willow Grove, Pa.
An employee was entering the branch around 6:45 a.m. Sunday when the robber attacked. In the video, the robber is seen darting towards the branch's open door. The workers tried to pull the door shut, but the suspect shot the glass door, leaving it shattered in pieces.
One employee fled the vestibule and into the store, while the other was left cowering at the feet of the shooter.
The ski mask-wearing robber then grabbed that employee by the neck and dragged him into the branch's lobby. The robber can be seen pointing a gun at the second employee, as he ran behind the counter towards the back of the bank.
The robber followed eventually ending up in the rear of the branch. Investigators tell NBC10.com the first employee was able to flee out of a back door.
After threatening the employee he'd grabbed, the robber fled without any money, according to the FBI. The employees were treated for minor injuries.
"We are deeply saddened that this happened to our TD family and our community," TD spokeswoman Rebecca Acevedo said in a statement. She said the bank's security measures are designed to protect both workers and customers.
The suspect is described by investigators as a black man dressed in all black clothing, including a black zip-front hooded sweatshirt. He wore a black mask which covered most of his face and was armed with a black handgun. Police say the suspect fled the scene in a black midsize SUV with chrome wheels and a Pennsylvania license plate with the letters, E, R and C. There was also a second person in the car.
Police are asking anyone who may have seen a vehicle matching the above description in the area between 6:15 and 7 a.m. to contact Abington Township Police at (267) 536-1100 or the FBI at (215) 418-4000.
