Ex-Philly Narc Officer Convicted of Lying to Feds

A former narcotics officer in Philadelphia has been convicted of lying to federal investigators about his romantic relationship with a confidential informant.

A jury on Friday returned the guilty verdict against 42-year-old Robertito Fontan. He faces up to 10 years in prison when he is sentenced April 28.

Prosecutors said Fontan became intimately involved with the woman several months after recruiting her to become an informant in 2003.

Fontan was accused of tipping off the woman that federal Drug Enforcement Administration agents in 2007 were investigating her former boyfriend, a reputed drug dealer.

Authorities said Fontan also lied to FBI agents in 2008 who were looking into the suspected DEA leak, denying he'd been romantically involved with or divulged information to the informant.
