Ex-Pharmacist Gets 10 Years on Drug Charges

Authorities say the 70-year-old operated a haven for drug dealers for five years

A former Philadelphia pharmacy owner has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and must forfeit more than $1 million after drug-related charges.

70-year-old Lawrence Young of Cherry Hill, N.J., was sentenced to 120 months in prison on Wednesday after being convicted of drug conspiracy and distribution of controlled substances in December 2009.

Prosecutors accused him of operating his pharmacy located at 1306 South Street in Philadelphia between 2001 and 2006 "as a haven for drug dealers and drug addicts." They say he filled bundles of sham prescriptions and frequently abused prescription drugs.

Young must forfeit more than $1.2 million in proceeds and was ordered to pay a $400,000 fine.
