Even City Councilmen Are Not Safe From PPA

Newly-elected City Councilman is the Philadelphia Parking Authority's latest car-towing victim.

Republican at-large David Oh says he did everything he was supposed to Wednesday morning. He parked his car in a City Council space, he put his City Council identification card on display in the car, and he still got towed.

The car was immediately returned without a fine when Oh called the Philadelphia Parking Authority.

Nobody knows why Oh’s car was towed despite its legal placement, but the Daily News reports some interesting facts around the mystery.

PPA spokeswoman Linda Miller told the Daily News that cars are only towed if it is illegally parked, and if a car is in front of an expired meter, it is only ticketed.

“We don't know what happened,” Miller told the Daily News. “Obviously if it was towed, then someone did not see the placard.”

In November’s election, Oh beat out Al Taubenberger who is president of the Greater Northeast Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and serves on the board of the PPA, reports the Daily News.

The PPA is GOP-controlled and run by a Republican ward leader, according to the Daily News.
When Oh called to get his car returned, "I said whatever it is, just bring the car back, it's fine," Oh told the newspaper.
