Eldery NJ Woman Shot to Death

Authorities in Cumberland County have ruled the death of an elderly woman in Upper Deerfield Township a homicide.

A live-in relative found the body of Hilja Jarve, 81, on the floor of their home on Rosenhayn Avenue around 5:30 Tuesday evening, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Stephen Jones said.

Jarve's death was being treated as "suspicious" and police confirmed Wednesday afternoon that she'd been shot to death.

No one has been arrested.

The case is being investigated by New Jersey State Police and members of the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office.

Upper Deerfield Township is a largely rural community, located outside Bridgeton.
