An elderly woman was struck and killed by a vehicle in New Castle, Delaware Saturday night.
A New Castle woman was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox on Cox Neck Road at 6:13 p.m. when she suddenly struck Jean Caricchio, 78, of Newark, Delaware. Caricchio had walked directly into the path of the vehicle, according to investigators.
Caricchio suffered several traumatic injuries in the accident and was later pronounced dead at the scene. Caricchio was not in the area of a designated or marked crosswalk when she was struck, police said.
The female driver was not hurt in the crash. No charges have been filed though Delaware State Police continue to investigate.
