Elderly Man Robbed, Pistol-Whipped in Home Invasion

Police are on the hunt for a man accused of assaulting and robbing an elderly man during a home invasion.

The 78-year-old victim told police he was inside his home Saturday, around 10:30 p.m. on the 2000 block of Church Lane, when his grandson left the door unlocked as he went out to get coffee. The victim says a gunman then walked into the home and struck him over the head with his handgun. The gunman then ordered the man to lie on the floor and to not look at him.

Police say the gunman stole the man’s wallet, which contained ID, credit cards and around $50 in cash. The gunman then demanded the victim give him more money but the victim replied that he didn’t have any left. The gunman then once again told the man to keep his head down before he left through the back of the home.

The victim was taken to Einstein Hospital where he was treated for a laceration to the head. The suspect is described as a thin, 40-year-old man, standing 5-foot-10. Police say he was dressed in all black clothing.
