Elderly Man Dead in Kensington Fire

Fire officials say the building had a smoke detector but the battery wasn't installed properly.

Officials say an elderly Philadelphia man is dead after an early morning fire.

Authorities say the fire broke out shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday on N. Front St. in the city's Kensington neighborhood.

The body of a 70-year-old man was recovered from the damaged home. His name was not immediately released.

The fire department says one firefighter suffered burns on his legs and was transported to Temple University Hospital.
