Duo Uses Tampons in Attempted Arson: Cops

No word yet on any motives in the alleged attempted arson.

A Central Pennsylvania man and woman are both accused of trying to set a car on fire by using tampons.

The Inquirer reports that on January 7, around 3:15 a.m., state troopers responded to a report of two people spotted damaging a car near the Hillside Tavern in Metal Township, Franklin County. When they arrived, investigators say they found a damaged green 2006 Ford Fusion.

Investigators say the car had numerous dents, a cracked windshield, busted rear window, open hood, disconnected hoses, blood on the passenger’s seat and no license plate, according to the Inquirer.

The state troopers claim they discovered the gas cap of the car removed and tampons and ashes inside the oil fill cap area, according to the Inquirer. Police say the tampons were possibly used to ignite the gas tank. The car’s owner, Falon Clark, arrived at the scene and the troopers were led back to the tavern, according to the Inquirer. When they arrived, the troopers arrested Patricia Deshong, 25, of Harrisonville and Quentin Deshong, 22, of Hustontown. There have been several media reports that Patricia and Quentin are brother and sister, according to the Inquirer, but this has not been confirmed by police.

During the arrest, Patricia allegedly stated she would kill one of the state troopers. Investigators say she also had the car’s license plate and registration in her possession.

Both were charged with attempted arson, criminal mischief and public drunkenness, according to the Inquirer. Patricia was also charged with making terroristic threats. In addition to Patricia and Adam, police also arrested Gary Boggs for allegedly driving under the influence when he dropped Clark off at her damaged car.

The Inquirer also reports Boggs told the authorities that Patricia threw a beer bottle through the back window of his truck.

No word yet on any motives.
