Drug Theft Charges Dropped for Del. Nurse

A Delaware nurse charged with stealing strong pain medicine from a terminally ill patient in her care has been exonerated.

Jennifer Williams was cleared Monday of two counts of obtaining a controlled substance by theft, according to the Delaware Attorney General's office.

Williams, 30, was arrested after a colleague found a large amount of Morphine and Marinol prescribed to a terminally ill 81-year old Concord Manor hospice resident missing, according to police.

The patent's family told the second nurse that Williams was acting incoherently and was unable to stand on her feet during the night, police said. Her behavior prompted the family to stay the night at the hospice.

The nurse, who was also pregnant at the time of the incident, was later hospitalized and eventually charged with the theft.

Officials would not elaborate as to why the charges were dropped.
