Officer's Drone Swoops In, Rescues Lost Puppy

A quick-thinking police officer in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, used his own personal drone to track down a lost puppy, according to a post on the Upper Gwynedd Township Police's Facebook page.

Kasi, a 10-month-old German shepherd, ran from her home in the 1000 block of South Broad Street Saturday. After an unsuccessful search on foot, Upper Gwynedd Township Police Officer Yin Young outfitted his personal drone with a video camera and sent it flying.

The drone was launched from the police station and located the puppy in the nearby woods after flying for about 20 ‌minutes.

Kasi was soon reunited with owner George Burns, safe and sound.

"It was a good idea," Sergeant John Brinkman with the Upper Gwynedd Township Police Department told NBC10 in Philadelphia. "We don't want the owner to get hurt unnecessarily looking for the dog."

Sgt. Brinkman said the police department might see potential in utilizing drones to help track down other lost pets or even missing children. "It's all about keeping people safe," he said.
