Hit-and-Run Victim Says Driver Refused to Help

The driver allegedly blamed the teen for the accident, refused his plea for help and left the scene

The search is on for the driver who hit a teenage bicyclist in Ambler on Saturday and left the scene, but not before blaming the teen for the accident. That's according to Briyon Turner who shared his story exclusively with NBC10's Deanna Durante.

Turner, 17, was hit around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning while riding his bicycle on Butler Pike near Bethlehem Pike. Upper Dublin Police say the driver of a black sedan, possibly a Nissan, was leaving the 7-Eleven parking lot and attempting to turn on Butler Pike.

Turner told NBC10's Deanna Durante that the man stopped his car and got out. But instead of asking if he was okay, the driver told the teen that the accident was his fault. The teen said he told the driver he was hurt and needed help, and asked for a ride home.

"All I was asking was for a ride to my house, just to get me somewhere safe, and the fact he couldn't even do that, " Turner said.

The man said no, according to the teen, and got back in his car and left.

The teen had a broken foot. Nearby witnesses at a gas station called police, Turner said.

"It just sickens me that there's people out here that would do that to a kid. He asked for help to get home and you leave him there. I just can't process his thinking," said Jennifer Higgins, victim's mother.

The driver is described a white male in his late 20s or early 30s, wearing an orange shirt, baseball hat and blue jeans. Police released a surveillance picture to NBC10 that shows the car in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven, and another picture that shows the suspected driver inside the store.
