Driver Killed in Fiery Roosevelt Boulevard Crash

A driver was killed after his car hit a tree and it burst into flames along the Roosevelt Boulevard Thursday night, police said.

The crash happened in the northbound lanes near Conwell Avenue around 9 p.m., officials said.

Police and witnesses tell NBC10 that other drivers immediately came to help the victim.

Phillip Vasserman said he was in the park across the street and ran over when he heard the crash. He said a number of people tried to pull the man, described by police as middle-aged, from the car and a nurse tried to perform CPR. The man could not be saved, however.

Philadelphia Police's Accident Investigation Division is on scene.
