Driver Crashes Into Broken Down Car, Hits Man

Authorities say a man whose car broke down on a northern New Jersey highway was seriously injured when another car crashed into his disabled vehicle, which then struck him.

The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Route 3 East in East Rutherford.

The 62-year-old Union City man had got out of his vehicle while it was still on the highway, and he was standing in front of it when the vehicle was hit from behind by another car. The impact pushed the man's car forward into him.

The man was hospitalized Sunday in critical condition with undisclosed injuries. It wasn't clear if anyone else was injured in the crash.

No charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing.
