Driver Arrested After Fatal Car Crash in Easton

A man is in custody after police say he struck and killed a pedestrian while driving in Easton.

Police say Francis Rosioli, 22, was driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee west on Lehigh Drive around 2:10 a.m. on Sunday. As Rosioli passed a slower moving vehicle in the east bound lane, he struck a pedestrian, identified as Abraham Rivera, according to investigators. Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Rosioli continued westbound on Lehigh Drive until he lost control and struck an embankment along the northern edge of the road. The Jeep flipped over and finally came to a rest. Rosioli was taken to Easton Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Rosioli was released from the hospital and committed to Northampton County Prison on an unrelated probation violation. He is charged with homicide by vehicle in relation to Sunday’s accident. Police also say DUI charges are pending the results of a toxicology test.
