Driver Admits to Gloucester Hit-and-Run

Woman admits to striking 20-year-old and trying to abandon damaged car

A 41-year-old Audubon, N.J. woman turned herself into police two days after she allegedly struck a 20-year-old woman in Gloucester City, N.J. and fled the scene.

Deborah Cirulli of Audubon admitted to hitting 20-year-old Angela Gattuso with her Chevrolet Uplander early Friday morning and then drove away from the seriously injured woman, police say.

Gattuso’s car was disabled on a railroad track on South Broadway in Gloucester City and was waiting on the side of the road as her father loaded her car onto his tow truck at about 1 a.m. when Cirulli allegedly hit the 2009 Gloucester Catholic graduate.

"I saw headlights approaching and a vehicle came southbound and hit my daughter. She was thrown about 75-feet beyond the truck," Louis Gattuso, Angela's father, told NBC Philadelphia.

After hitting Gattuso, Cirulli drove her damaged Uplander out of state and abandoned it, police said.

After widespread media coverage of the hit-and-run accident, Cirulli turned herself into police.

Her Uplander was recovered Monday afternoon at a McDonald's parking lot in Wilmington, Del., said county prosecutors.

Cirulli is charged with leaving the scene of a serious motor vehicle crash, aggravated assault with an automobile and hindering apprehension. She being held in the Camden County Jail on $25,000 bail.

Gattuso remains in critical condition at Cooper Hospital in Camden, police say.
