Dozens of people were briefly evacuated from neighborhoods in southern New Jersey after road construction crews struck gas lines.
No injuries were reported in either incident, which both occurred Monday morning in Cape May.
The Press of Atlantic City reports the first incident occurred around 8:45 a.m. at Hughes Street and Ocean Avenue. A six-block area was evacuated after a crew struck a two-inch high pressure gas line.
While emergency personnel were responding to that incident, another crew working at Delaware and Reading avenues struck another line, causing another four homes to be evacuated.
Both of the damaged gas lines were secured about an hour later, and all of the evacuated residents were then allowed to return to their homes.
