Dog's Burned Remains Found in Chester County

Firefighters made the gruesome discovery after reporting to a trash fire early Saturday morning

A disturbing case of animal abuse is under investigation after the charred remains of a dog were discovered in Chester County.

Chester County SPCA spokesman Rich Britton says the burnt remains of a dog were found in the 300 block of Coates Street in Coatesville around 2:30 a.m. Saturday. Firefighters made the gruesome discovery after reporting to a trash fire.

Police say the male young adult Yorkie was “dumped in the middle of nowhere.” Investigators say they do not know if the dog was alive at the time of the incident.

“In the eight years that I’ve been here, I’ve never seen something so horrific in my life. Just how could somebody do this to a small animal is beyond my belief,” said SPCA Animal Protective Services officer Craig Baxter.

Investigators tell NBC10's Rich Britton that a woman has come forward in the belief that the dog was hers. That information will not be confirmed until either Monday or Tuesday.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Chester County SPCA at 610-692-6113 ext. 213.
