Police say the newborn fatally bitten by a dog inside a western Pennsylvania home had been left alone while his mother was in the bathroom.
Authorities say 2-day-old Howard Nicholson died Thursday morning after being bitten on the head by an 80-pound husky inside his parents' McKeesport home.
McKeesport police Capt. Tim Hanna says the mother heard the baby's cries then saw one of two dogs in the room had blood on its muzzle. The baby was airlifted to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and pronounced dead.
Police removed the husky and a pit bull from the home. Two other dogs were being kept in the basement.
Allegheny County police Superintendent Charles Moffatt says the baby's mother took in animals she felt had been mistreated.
