Doctor Charged with Distributing Child Porn

Federal prosecutors have charged a former children's doctor with distributing child pornography.

The U.S. Attorney's Office said Friday that 38-year-old David Scanlan III of Harrisburg already has a plea agreement with prosecutors.

Prosecutors said the agreement calls for Scanlan to plead guilty to one child porn distribution charge, which carries a maximum prison term of 20 years and a $250,000 fine. The charge carries a mandatory minimum prison sentence of five years.

Federal investigators claim Scanlan distributed child porn online in mid-2011. Prosecutors said he specialized in treating children with cancer and has since surrendered his medical license.

He was placed on leave by the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center after he came under investigation by law enforcement.

A call to Scanlan's attorney seeking comment wasn't immediately returned.
