It doesn’t get much worse then sitting on the beach, soaking up the sun on the brink of that mid-day nap and... BAM! You realize those two hours on the meter are up.

But there is a silver lining to the dark cloud that is meter parking.

Now, Wildwood beachgoers and residents will have the luxury of paying for their parking meters from the convenience of their cell phone.

It’s called Pay by Cell Phone from iControl Mobile Payment Solutions.

Here’s how it works.

For the first use, drivers call the posted number on the meter and are given a one-time opportunity to use the service for free. For any additional use, you pre-register by visiting www.cellparkingusa.com. You will be directed to fill out more information and preload your account through a credit card -- much like E-Z Pass.

Wait, it gets better.

“When you call to start the meter, you automatically have eight hours (unless otherwise posted) available,” city intern Katie Ferrara told Press of Atlantic City. Just call back to stop the clock when you leave the parking space.”

So what's the point of those big iron parking meters anymore?

“The meter heads are only good to hold the stickers. That’s the running joke,” Mayor Gary DeMarzo told the Press.

On your next visit to Wildwood, no need to fear that meter maid or rush your stroll on the boardwalk -- take as much time as you need.
