District: Girl Wrestler Poses Coaching Dilemma

Attorneys for a central Pennsylvania school district being sued by the parents of a seventh-grade girl who wants to wrestle on a middle school team say doing so presents various coaching dilemmas.

PennLive.com reports the Line Mountain School District made the arguments in its response to a federal lawsuit filed in Williamsport last month by Brian and Angie Beattie, of Herndon.

The district's response says it prohibits boys and girls from being teammates in close contact sports because students of both genders have a "right to be protected from undesired contact of sensual body parts from a person of the opposite sex.''

A federal judge last month issued an order allowing the girl to sign up for the team. He's scheduled a hearing Nov. 20 to determine whether to make that injunction permanent.
