D.A. to Review DUI Cases After Breathalyzer Problems

They will review over 1,000 cases.

In the wake of a shocking announcement by the Philadelphia Police Department, the District Attorney’s Office is now implementing major new changes when it comes to DUI cases.

On Wednesday Philly Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey announced that four of their breathalyzers were not calibrated correctly, putting in doubt 1,147 DUI cases handled from September 2009 through November 2010.

The District Attorney’s Office stated Thursday that they would review each of those cases.

The Office also said that they would retrain assistant district attorneys in the office about DUI cases and the issues that arise during the prosecution of those cases.

A supervisor in the office will also carry out new internal checks on the calibrations of the breathalyzers.
