Disfigured and Depressed: Teen Amputee Testifies at Trial

Closing arguments expected Monday in lawsuit over Pennsbury High School bus crash

A jury could begin deliberations soon in a family's lawsuit over the school bus crash that ended with a suburban Philadelphia teenager having her leg amputated.

Closing arguments are expected Monday in the lawsuit against Pennsbury High School over the January 2007 crash that left Ashley Zauflik in a medically induced coma. Her leg and hip were crushed when a bus lurched into a group of about 20 students waiting outside the school.

Pennsbury officials have acknowledged liability in the crash, which the National Transportation Safety Board attributed to driver error.

The family wants at least $3 million in damages from the district. The district had offered $500,000, the capped amount allowed by Pennsylvania law.

Zauflik testified last week the accident left her "disfigured" and struggling with depression.
