On Reality Show, DeSean Accuses Eagles of ‘Smear Campaign,' Declares Self ‘Eagles-Killer'

DeSean Jackson’s new reality show, Home Team, debuted Tuesday night on BET. Not surprisingly, the former Eagles wideout, who now plays for the Redskins, fired some shots about his former team on the first episode.

Several of Jackson’s comments about the Eagles were transcribed by About.com in this story.

According to the post, Jackson reflected on his abrupt 2014 release from the Eagles on March 28, a few months after Jackson set personal bests with 82 receptions for 1,332 yards, tied a career high with nine touchdown catches and made his third Pro Bowl.

“I was at the top of the top ... then I got released,” said Jackson, who also accused the Eagles of waging a “smear campaign” against him.

An NJ.com story that came out hours before Jackson’s release detailed the receiver’s friendship and association with suspected gang members. However, a CSNPhilly.com report weeks earlier detailed the team’s strained relationship with the mercurial wideout and intentions to trade or release him.

"When I was released by the Eagles, I felt they tried to paint a picture that definitely wasn't true,” he said. “It was a slap in the face coming off one of my best seasons in the NFL.”

Jackson also responded to a friend’s comment that his Los Angeles upbringing and circle of friends influenced coach Chip Kelly’s decision to cut him.

"That's why I think they fired me,” he said. “What have I done? Have I gone to jail? Am I in federal? No."

Jackson last year had two 100-yard receiving games against the Eagles, who went 1-1 against their NFC East rivals. He caught five passes for 117 yards and a touchdown in the first meeting at the Linc and caught four more for 126 yards — his third-highest total last year — in Washington’s late-season upset at FedEx Field.

"I call myself a Cowboy-killer and a Giant-killer,” Jackson said in the show. “Now I'm an Eagles-killer."
