Criminal Charges Could Come in Deptford Mall Brawl

Criminal charges could be filed in connection with a South Jersey mall brawl this weekend that spilled from inside the mall into the parking lot, police said on Monday.

Deptford Police were called to the Deptford Mall about 8:30 p.m. Saturday, when they said hundreds of people were involved in a disturbance near a food court area inside the mall.

More Deptford Police officers as well as the Camden and Gloucester County police departments were called to the scene for assistance. As the officers arrived, large groups of people were forced out of the mall which led to several fights in the parking lot, according to investigators. Officers dispersed the crowd and remained at the scene until around 9:30 p.m. to prevent any further fights. No one was seriously injured during the incident, police said.

A juvenile was taken into custody and later released to a guardian at the scene. Police say additional charges may be filed against others involved as the investigation continues.
