Delivery Drivers Put on Alert After Armed Robbers Strike 5 Times in Delaware

Police in Delaware put delivery drivers on alert after five armed robberies over the past few weeks.

Delivery drivers were targeted by a group of three to six men in the heist that have taken place between Oct. 29 to Nov. 16 in the Wellington Woods, Waterford Mobile Home Park, Pine Woods, Raven Glenn and Newtown Village communities in Newark and Bear -- some of the neighborhoods are within just blocks of each other, said New Castle County Police.

In each case, suspects – at least one armed with a handgun – demanded money from the delivery driver as they approached a call location, said police.

In one of the heists, the victim was assaulted with some sort of object, said police. No injuries were reported in the other robberies.

Detectives suspect the heists could be related due to the geographical proximity of some of the crime scenes, but there has been no definitive evidence linking the same suspects to each heist.

Detectives did, however, put delivery drivers on alert; suggesting that drivers be aware of their surroundings, check to see if they are being followed, never keeping much money on them and to never leave the car running.

Police asked anyone with information on the heists to contact Detective M. DiSabatino at (302) 395-8110 or by email.
