Deli Employee Scares Robbers Off With Machete

Robbers caught on tape stealing money, attacking deli employee

Robbers stormed into the Lincoln Deli in Bridgeton, N.J. with guns. But they were scared off by a weapon of a different kind: a machete.

Three robbers stormed into the deli at about 7 p.m. on Saturday, two of them carrying guns. They pistol-whipped and kicked employee Diego Zuniga. That was before co-worker Ipolito Rodriguez reached behind the counter and pulled out a machete.

“That’s a good thing…because they run away,” store employee Johan Diaz told NBC Philadelphia.

The attack and robbery, all caught on surveillance video, shows one of the robbers go behind the counter, forcing Rodriguez to open the register. After the robber cleaned out the cash drawer, and as Zuniga was being attacked, Rodriguez flashed the machete and swung it at one of the men. All three robbers ran away.

“If they come again, I don’t know what we’re going to do, but we’re going to have something,” Diaz said.

Zuniga was treated and released from a local hospital for his injuries. If you know who the robbers are, call the Bridgeton Police at 856-451-0033.
