Delco Parents Warned of Facebook Friender

Parents alerted after person reaches out to middle school girls on Facebook

School officials in Delaware County were asking parents to be extra vigilant of their children’s activity online after a person became “friends” with a number of female middle schoolers on Facebook.

Recently a person using the Facebook screen name “Dan Speers” has become Facebook “friends” with a series of young girls who attend Paxon Hollow Middle School in Broomall, Pa.

This is the letter Principal Dr. Stephen Subers sent home to parents:

I received information today from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of Delaware County’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force regarding a possible child predator on Facebook.  Several children from Paxon Hollow have been identified as being “friends” with this individual. The list has grown daily. All friends to date are female. His Facebook screen name is Dan Speers. Please check your child’s friends list.  If you find this person has friended your child please contact David Peiefer from CID of Delco at 610-891-4700 (office) or 610-892-0719 (Cell).

The District Attorney’s Office confirmed that someone was reaching out to become “friends” with the girls but they wouldn't confirm that person's identity. They say they aren’t sure if a crime was committed but they are investigating.
