Delaware Teen Receives President's Volunteer Service Award

A Hockessin teenager has been recognized by President Barack Obama for the hundreds of hours he has spent helping the poor.

The News Journal reports 17-year-old Kevin Jasani received the President's Volunteer Service Award last month. Jasani, a junior at Archmere Academy in Claymont, has volunteered for the past three years at Faith Victory Christian Center in Clayton.

To qualify for the award, Jasani had to clock at least 250 hours volunteering in a year — a figure he surpassed in 2016. The teen organized clothing and food drives, and a shoe drive that donated 100 pairs of shoes to the homeless. He also encouraged his classmates to serve food to a group of 300 with Faith Victory on Thanksgiving.

Jasani says helping people has become his main hobby.
