Delaware Officials to Name Teacher of the Year

Governor Jack Markell and U.S. Sen. Tom Carper will be on hand as Delaware education officials name the state's teacher of the year for 2015.

The winner was to be announced from a field of 20 finalists at a banquet Tuesday night at Dover Downs hotel.

Markell will recognize the school districts' teachers of the year before announcing the winner of the state award.

The nominees were selected from among Delaware's 9,000 public school teachers.

The candidates were nominated by their districts or charter school network for their ability to inspire students, their demonstration of professional traits and their devotion to teaching.

The state Teacher of the Year will receive a $5,000 grant for the benefit of his or her students, as well as a personal grant of $3,000.
