Delaware Officials Investigate Connection Between 6 Recent Heroin Overdoses

Officials in Delaware investigating whether six heroin overdose deaths are related.

WDEL in Wilmington reported Tuesday that the six overdoses occurred within a three-week period. Two distinctive stamps were found on the packages of heroin that were used by the victims.

Authorities are analyzing the chemical makeup of the drugs that were recovered. Five of the deaths occurred in New Castle County. One was reported in Sussex County. The state has reported 125 overdose deaths so far in 2017.

Health officials are urging opioid users to get treatment. Their family members are also encouraged to get trained in the use of naloxone. The overdose-reversing medication will be available at pharmacies under legislation signed by Governor Carney last week.
