Delaware Officials Eye Struggling Charter School

State education officials are getting closer to deciding the fate of a struggling charter school that serves mostly low-income children in Wilmington.

A public hearing was scheduled Tuesday evening regarding Moyer Academy. A final decision by the state school board is expected next month.

State officials put Moyer on formal review last month, noting that it turned in the lowest standardized test scores of any charter school in Delaware for the 2013-2014 school year. The latest test results were even worse than the previous year, when less than half of Moyer students demonstrated proficiency in reading and math.

Officials also noted a host of other concerns involving academics, school discipline and attendance, and low enrollment.

State officials previously revoked Moyer's charter in 2010 after years of poor academic performance.
